NOTE: When a statutory holiday falls on a regularly scheduled residential pick-up day, solid waste collection will move according to the schedule below.

Garbage Collection Maps

Residential Solid Waste (Garbage) Regulations

Toter Garbage Carts are mandatory for all residential, institutional, and commercial no bin garbage collection. Garbage will not be collected unless it is within the regulation Toter Cart. Garbage Collection is restricted to weekly removal of one Toter Cart not exceeding 60 kilograms.

For customers with additional service requirements, please contact the District of Houston Office at 250-845-2238 to ask about the "Tag-a-Cart" service. Tags must be purchased for each additional garbage toter you wish to have picked up and are available for purchased at the Municipal Office.

Need a new bin? Garbage toters can be purchased at local retailers or online and must meet the following requirements:

• It must be a 240L (64-gallon) capacity, and
• It must have a lid to keep out critters and prevent litter.

All residential solid waste receptacles must be accessible and within a meter of the curb or curb line. All receptacles containing waste for disposal must be placed at the designated location by 8:00 am on the designated collection day. No solid waste will be removed from private property or from driveways on private property.

Restricted Materials

The following are considered restricted materials and the District of Houston reserves the right to not remove these materials:

• Animal excreta or ashes unless properly contained in a separate disposable container
• Construction materials or waste
• Yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, small branches and other compostable material from yard maintenance
• Vehicle parts
• Dead animals or birds
• Hot ashes
• Article of garbage too large for container
• Tires
• Batteries
• Paints
• Special waste
• Corrugated Cardboard
