Zoning Bylaw Open House Scheduled for August 26

August 5, 2026

The District of Houston is inviting residents, property owners, businesses, and interested stakeholders to review and provide feedback on proposed updates to the District’s planning and development regulations.

With support from Urban Systems and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), the District has prepared a new zoning bylaw to replace the land use regulations currently contained within the District’s Development Bylaw. The draft bylaw is now available for public review and comment.

About the New Zoning Bylaw

The Zoning Bylaw contains regulations relating to the use and development of land within the District of Houston. This includes regulations relating to the following:

  • The use and density of land, buildings and other structures,
  • The siting, size and dimensions of buildings and other structures and permitted uses,
  • The location of uses on the land and within buildings and other structures,
  • The shape, dimensions and area of all parcels of land created by subdivision, including minimum and maximum parcel sizes, and
  • Minimum landscaping, screening, and parking requirements.

Additional Bylaws Available for Review

In addition to the draft Zoning Bylaw, residents are also invited to review and provide feedback on the proposed:

  • Manufactured Home Park Bylaw
  • Sign Bylaw

Community input received during this review period will help inform the bylaws before they move forward through the formal approval process.

Public Open House

To facilitate public discussion and feedback, the District of Houston will host a public open house:

Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: District of Houston Council Chambers, 3367 12th Street, Houston, BC

The open house will provide an opportunity for attendees to:

  • Review the draft bylaws and associated maps,
  • Learn about the proposed changes and ask questions, and
  • Provide comments and feedback for consideration prior to the formal bylaw approval process.

All interested persons are encouraged to attend the open house.

Review the Draft Bylaws

The draft Zoning Bylaw, associated maps and supporting documents, as well as the proposed Manufactured Home Park Bylaw and Sign Bylaw, are available online on the District’s Planning and Development page.
