Start a Business
Starting a business can feel complex, but the Province of British Columbia provides clear, step-by-step guidance to help you through the process. From developing your business idea and choosing the right structure to registering your business, applying for permits, and understanding tax requirements, these resources outline everything you need to get started and grow with confidence. Before starting or expanding a business, it is important to confirm that your proposed location is properly zoned for the type of activity you plan to operate.
If you are operating a business in the District of Houston – regardless of where your business is based – you are required to obtain a Business Licence.
If you are opening a business or installing new or updated signage, a Sign Permit may be required before installation.

Houston & District Chamber of Commerce
Supports local businesses through networking opportunities, advocacy, and promotion of the regional economy. Membership provides access to events, business visibility, and exclusive programs and discounts.
Community Futures Nadina
Supports entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District. Services include small business loans, business planning support, and succession and transition advice.
